Douglas County is located in east central Kansas. It is named for Stephen Douglas, an important American Politician.
The seat and largest city are both Lawrence. It is located just west of the Kansas City area.
The county borders Jefferson, Leavenworth, Johnson, Miami, Franklin, Osage and Shawnee Counties.
Main highways through the county include I-70, US-59, US-40, US-56, K-10 and US-24.
